About Adun Society

The Adun Society is a self-helped charity supporting the African community
in South East London. The project originated from a desperate need for the
local black women to improve their employment prospects. The initiative
started at the Albany, a community centre based in the middle of a local
market in Deptford, itself one of the designated poor areas in London.

Since 1989, we have been running employment skills training for women
with little or no Western education as well as young people over 16 from
deprived background. The charity has given itself a new image, new
profile and new premises. The image is that of efficiency and confidence
to help with community development. It has made the transition from
low income employment training in Fashion Design to high-earner training
in Information Technology for women and men, the type of training that leads
to greater career satisfaction, generally meeting the needs of the employer
and that of the individual.
